[Review]The Avantek BC-L6 Bluetooth Receiver – £19.99 @AmazonUK

I was sent this to review by Avantek and give my honest opinion.

I found the Avantek BC-L6 Bluetooth Receiver much smaller than expected, and that is a good thing. It as big as half a golf ball, made out of a good quality black plastic. It should easily fit in almost all cars (that have AUX IN of course). I have tried it with Google’s Voice search and it works great. It should work with Siri without any issues.

One little drawback with the product is that it comes without an internal battery. This means you have to keep it plugged into the car for it to work. A bonus is that the charger that comes in the box is a two-port USB one, so it means you can use the extra charging port for another device.

In terms of design, the Avantek BC-L6 Bluetooth is very simple, circular and black, equipped with a permanently attached wire for audio and power connections. The external wire is about 3 feet long and splits for power and audio segregation.

The Avantek Bluetooth receiver is mountable with the support of a magnetic back. Mounting and detaching is very easy and simple.

If the top part of the device is twisted, it helps to turn the volume up or down or you can skip tracks. By pushing the centre button down and holding it, it activates the Google Voice search on your phone (or Siri). It can also be used to stream music via Bluetooth from a compatible device. I have tried it with 2 Android powered phones (OnePlus One and a Xiaomi Redmi 2) and it works great.

The sound quality when on the phone or when listening to music is really great, with no stutter or interruptions. The Avantek BC-L6 is priced at just £19.99 which means that as a whole, this gadget is worth buying.

Conclusion :The AVANTEK Portable Bluetooth Receiver comes with more features than many similar products and a clever means of remotely controlling playback from your phone, but it will involve running wires to a power outlet and an auxiliary input in a car.

[ROM] Hydrogen OS Released + Download Link

Hydrogen OS is an alternative ROM for OnePlus One users that quite unlike its Oxygen counterpart — it’s a redesign of many of stock Android foundations, especially in regards to organization and aesthetics. Hydrogen OS features eye-catchy animations and a design that is reminiscent to both Material Design and Aqua with similar behavior to the former but enough differences to make it unique.

1222 32

While Hydrogen OS is still in beta with a release scheduled for July, you can try out the ROM on your OnePlus One and enjoy it without registering for the beta. XDA Senior Member natheux has now shared with us a download link to the latest release, and this version brings new animations and general improvements to the aesthetics and performance of the phone, as well as better wake-up gestures. However, keep in mind that early reports in both the XDA thread and the OnePlus forums seem to paint this release as a hit or miss — some claim great battery life and performance, while others claim that there are problems with the touchscreen, gestures, crashes, freezes and even an alleged bricking.

If you do proceed, make sure to read both threads [1][2] carefully so that you minimize associated risks. Those of you who want to jump in might find quite a surprise, and the early reviews and screenshots look really good. You can find a video review of the v4 release below, where you can learn about its performance and features.

[NEWS] Meet the #OnePlus ROM: OxygenOS

As many of you know, OnePlus will be launching their own ROM in the near future. They’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what this ROM means to us and our fans. OnePlus realized that, like everything they do, their true goal is to make the product that everybody would want to use—to make great technology more accessible for everyone. With their own ROM, that means software that is open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features.

When OnePlus designed the One, they went back to the drawing board, creating a smartphone that offers a bold, powerful, straight-forward experience.

And, that’s exactly what they plan to do with their ROM.

After considering all of the amazing suggestions you guys gave, OnePlus found the name that truly inspired them:

OxygenOS (HydrogenOS for the Chinese OPO)

As an element, Oxygen is the epitome of simplicity, yet it’s also extraordinarily powerful.

Oxygen is all around us. It’s part of us and everything we do. It creates the water that carves out valleys and moves mountains. By itself, it’s simple and pure—a fundamental building block. But, as a part of something greater, it can do amazing things. Just like us.

Together, we will do big things.

Stay tuned; more information is coming on February 12th.

And, as always, Never Settle.

[NEWS] #OnePlus ROM could be called OneOS

As you probably already knew OnePlus asked their fans to help them find a new name for their own in-house built OS.

Here at OnePlus, we care deeply about giving our fans the best possible user experience, and we believe that an emphasis on openness and customization is a big, big part of that. That’s why we officially support rooting and flashing custom ROMs on the OnePlus One without affecting your warranty. It’s also why we test and release builds of alternative ROMs for use on the OnePlus One on our forums.

We know that the best choice for you is the one that you make for yourself, and that idea is at the core of everything we do. From the beginning, we’ve asked our fans to “Never Settle,” and we stand by that ideology. Now, it’s time to take it to the next level.

As you may have heard, we are developing our own custom ROM in-house — just one more option for those who refuse to compromise. We promise that it will be close to stock, bloat-free, and highly customizable; we wouldn’t ask you to settle for anything less. What you may not know, though, is that our first community build will be released soon. Much sooner than you likely expected.

After the votes were entered, 10 finalists were chosen:

Opus — ahighfield — Hong Kong — 12/17/2014 17:12:27

Nomad OS — greatbubba — Sweden — 12/17/2014 17:19:32

CosmOS — Tuqano — Italy — 12/17/2014 19:13:09

Muse — redm — USA — 12/18/2014 9:17:06

Karma — coldcatt — Canada — 12/18/2014 10:17:19

OnePlus ROM — TakeMyMoney — Netherlands — 12/17/2014 16:31:23

StratOS — Deidara — Mexico — 12/18/2014 3:49:52

Carbon — Thijs — Belgium — 12/17/2014 18:08:32

ElementOS — Talon918 — India — 12/17/2014 23:38:11

DaVinci — martina.seno — Italy — 12/17/2014 21:04:23

Now here comes the really BIG news, according to the official Chinese forum, OnePlus VP, Liu Zuohu has said that choosing one of the above names would prove pretty difficult, because of trademark and copyright issues.

Liu Zuohu then says: “So in the end we found OneOS is the “best” name, but many people would argue is the most unoriginal name.” Bing Translation

What do you think?!? Is the name OneOS too boring or do you think it is just perfect, because it is so simple?!?

[NEWS] Most Popular Android Phone of 2014: #OnePlusOne

There are so many great Android phones on the market right now that no list could contain them all, but when Lifehacker.com asked for your picks, you, the public, gave them a great selection. They looked at the five best Android phones of the year based on those picks, and after over 38,000 votes, it’s time to highlight your favorite.

The Cyanogen-powered, difficult-to-obtain OnePlus One took the top spot by a fair margin, bringing in close to 49% of the overall vote and taking first place. The team behind it still operates on invites, but they’ve recently opened the door to a batch pre-order system that will get you in line to get one of the affordable, high-end phones if you want one.

Second place went to the slightly old but arguably another killer bang for your buck, the Nexus 5 by LG. Many of you said it was just the right size, just the right price, and since it’s a Nexus, if you have one you already have Lollipop — and Lollipop sings on an Nexus 5. It brought in close to 16% of the overall vote. In third with just under 15% of the votes cast was the successor to last year’s top pick, the HTC One M8. Almost every comment about it praised its build quality, all-metal design, and improved features over the original HTC One. Fourth place went to the Moto X, a great all-around phone that brings powerful features to the table without costing you an arm and a leg to get them. It picked up close to 11% of the vote. Bringing up the rear in fifth was the Sony Xperia Z3, Sony’s latest flagship, with its dustproof and waterproof chassis and high-quality camera. It earned just over 10% of the overall vote.

For more on each of these and the honorable mentions not listed here, make sure to head back to the full Hive Five feature to read more.

Do you agree?!? Is the OnePlus really The Best Phone of 2014 ?!?

[ROM] OnePlus #OneRomAWeek – LewaOS

Lewa OS (Chinese:乐蛙), also called Music Frogs or жабка, is a third-party Android ROM produced by the Chinese company Lewa Technology. It mainly focuses on developing ROMs for 1000-renminbi (around US$126) phones . As of April 2013, they have more than 2 million users, and as of July 2012, they are among the Top 3 custom Android ROMs in China, together with MIUI and DianXin OS (also known as Tapas OS). Lewa is also the first-ever custom Android ROM in the world that supports dual-SIM standby feature. The ROM includes its own Lewa market, a power save mode, adjustable switches in notification bar, and some other modifications that are “optimized and localized” for Chinese users. It releases a new version via OTA update once a week every Friday. Other than models that are officially supported, phones can also use Lewa by using ROMs that are ported by others or by users themselves. Some believe that it provides a user experience and design that’s similar or better than iOS or MIUI, some commentators also point out that the ROM is simple and energy-saving.

Anyway, Lewa OS is now available for the OnePlus One courtesy of Chinese Lewa developer wuxianlin.

This ROM is based on the latest CM11S stable ROM and it includes the CM11S camera, gallery and all the gestures. It should be fast, fluid and bug free, but don’t forget it’s still a BETA release.

ROM features:

  • Pre ROOTed (Security Settings>Permission management>Perm>ROOT), but SuperSU still has to be flashed.
  • I have removed the majority of Chinese apps
  • Sony Honami keyboard added
  • a few build.prop tweaks
  • Google Playstore and updating apps seems to be broken, I have flashed different Gapps packages, but can’t get apps to update and install
  • You can add a Google account for contacts and calendar sync
  • Lewa’ App Store can be used to install Gmail, Calendar, etc
  • Loads of very nice looking built in apps (check the screenshots)

  • Download Lewa.zip and copy to your OnePlus
  • Download SuperSU.zip and copy to your OnePlus
  • Wipe Data/ Cache/ Dalvik and System
  • Flash Lewa.zip and SuperSU
  • Reboot and setup Lewa
